Ontario Prepares for Annual Day of Action Against Litter

In honor of Ontario’s Day of Action on Litter, David Piccini, Minister of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks, has issued a statement expressing gratitude towards everyone who has made an effort to keep the environment clean and healthy, both in their homes and communities.

The purpose of the Day of Action on Litter is to raise awareness about the impact of litter on the environment and to encourage Ontarians to pick up any litter they come across in public places, including parks, lakes, and rivers.

Since the first Day of Action on Litter in May 2020, over three million people have been reached through social media, and the government has monitored community cleanups across Ontario. The government has also partnered with First Nations and municipalities to maintain the cleanliness of Ontario’s waterways. However, there is still more work to be done to protect and preserve the natural environment, and the annual Day of Action on Litter is an excellent starting point.

In addition to participating in the Day of Action on Litter, there are other actions that Ontarians can take to help keep their land and water clean. These include properly disposing of waste in bins, reducing waste before it becomes litter, using reusable water bottles, organizing community cleanups, and adopting local greenspaces, roads, sidewalks, or shorelines to keep them litter-free.

The government is committed to keeping parks and waterways free of litter and waste. For instance, in collaboration with Pollution Probe, the government invested in the world’s largest initiative to combat plastic pollution.

By taking action to keep Ontario clean, you are making a significant difference, and the government stands with you in its efforts to keep the province healthy for future generations.
